I have a 99 jeep Cherokee sport 4.0L with 160,000 miles on it. The struts from what i can tell have never been change. i have watched a few videos on how to replace them but i can not find what type of shock or thing for that mater goes inside it. Is it just a regular shock like the ones i replace the front ones with or is it something special? Only the front end has struts and i plan on doing them my self.

Your Cherokee has standard shock absorbers that are easily replaced. There should be one on each corner of the vehicle. Remember that they must be replaced in pairs, i.e. the fronts together, or the rears together. The springs are separate components.

Gonna replace the struts all the way around on my 1998 Neon. Got all 4 Monroe Sensa Track off Amazon for $86 after a $90 rebate. Great deal!!!!

Just as an FYI. Struts support the weight of the vehicle which means they often have a spring attached to them. Shock absorbers don’t support the weight of the vehicle but they do control the motion of the suspension in the same way. Both can also be referred to as ‘dampers’. I mention this so that when you order your parts you will be less confusing. Shocks for the most part are easy to replace, it just depends on how my rust you encounter in the process. Good luck.

Hi, I’ve just changed the back absorbers and front Mcpherson struts on a Opel Astra from 1996. (190000km/120000miles)
It tooks me 5 hours only for the struts because of some rusty bolts.
The point I really want to mention is, once the replacement is ended, struts back on the car, it’s VERY important, to tighten once more the central bold on the top of the absorber, over there, under the hood.
I already tighten it with a impact wrench while the strut was of of the car, but it wasn’t enough!
Whence in place, with the weight of the car, the spring is compressed a little more and it’s possible to tighten a lot more.
I realize this because of the noise I heard while running my car on bumpy roads
