hey, sorry if this has been covered in the past, i’m new and just wondering whether this should be a concerning issue with a car. i went out and test drove a little suzuki jimny 07 model, everything worked just fine although i noticed a slight noise from the aircon when i turned it on, sounded like a belt issue but anyway, there were 2 things i noticed with the transmission.
number one was the clutch was incredibly light, didn’t feel spongy, just very very light which was a little unnerving although the engagement was solid with no slipping but the other is a little hard to explain.
when shifting to select a gear the stick had a funny feeling in which i couldn’t tell whether the car was in gear properly, it didn’t provide the response i normally feel when a car is in gear where it sort of resists a little then happily slides in where you know it’s engaged, i’d describe this box to not really feel like it had that response and kind of shorter range too almost like it had a short shifter kit. the only known modification to it was a 2″ suspension lift, i’m under the impression the lift would have just lifted the chassis higher over the axles rather than the body spaced from the chassis in which it might have affected the box. sorry if this is long and confusing, searching forums and google proved difficult to find anyone noticing anything similar

The lift may be affecting the drive line angle. Is it possible
that the clutch and hydraulics are getting weak.

i suppose anything is possible but i wouldn’t expect too much to be going wrong with a car of that age yet. if the lift is affecting the drive line would that directly affect the way a shifter can feel when changing? i thought that would only be the case if the body was lifted higher over the gearbox

Did you check the clutch master fluid?

Yeah all the fluids were topped up and clean, had recently had a service AMD drove nice, the light clutch makes me think it might be possible that its been replaced some point in the past with a different compression plate assembly which causes the light pedal but I’m still stumped as to why it felt the way it did when putting it into gear, might have to look through the service history a second time
