Wanted to know if anyone could help me diagnose this engine noise on my “soon to be scrap” 1994 ford explorer. I plan on tinkering with it this weekend. Any suggestions would be appreciated. More info in the link.

Difficult to say, but since it appears to be only one side it Sounds to me kinda like an exhaust leak, possibly from the exhaust manifold gasket/Manifold, or donut.

I would do a good inspection of the exhaust system…

Thanks, yea I am planning to double check the exhaust manifold but felt like I could hear it in the upper intake, hoping the cat is not starting to back up or something.

get some seafoam spray and put some in the intake to get the
truck to smoke. Then put a rag over the exhaust pipe and you
            will see any exhaust leaks.

It’s an exhaust leak for sure, like maybe the EGR tube from the valve to the exhaust manifold. I see it has a new EGR installed.

                College Man,

Thanks, I did pick some sea foam and will see if I can find it.

                Wysetech,

Yea, not sure if the previous one was bad but played it safe. Also replaced the pcv and tonight I put on new egr pressure feedback hoses, one was cracked at the sensor connection and it helped settle the idle a bit. I did notice that the erg tube has a small leak and i am going to attempt to wrap it in some high temp aluminum tape. I would replace it but they are not cheap.
