I have a 1990 Honda Accord and just replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and flywheel. Sometimes the clutch pedal will hang up momentarily after a shift. Is this normal during a break in period after the clutch was replaced? Also there is another question related to this, when I want to start the car, the starter will on occasion not engage when I turn the key. I have always had the later issue. The car has 262000 miles on the clock. I’m thinking the clutch/cruise switch is going south? Am I right?

Did you inspect the clutch cable linkage or hydraulics to see if there is any issues there?

I would also recommend having an assistant pump the clutch pedal so you can examine the above as well as making sure the pivot fork is moving correctly.

Unfortunately I think you’re going to have to go back in there and check things out especially if it wasn’t exhibiting those symptoms before you replaced the clutch. It’s a good idea to clean and lubricate the shaft that the throw out bearing rides on with high temp lithium grease when you do the clutch job so if you didn’t do that or used some other lubricant this is probably the cause of the clutch hanging up on disengagement.

As for the starter issue check your connections but also this video should help.

Thanks for all the suggestions on here and I do apoligize for not getting back sooner. The clutch itself appeared to be all hydraulic and everything was aligned properly. The hydraulic system was never opened up so that was good. The problem I did find through elimination was I found a pivot bolt on the back of the clutch pedal that was sticking due to some minut particles of rust that built up over time. I took some liquid wrench to it and worked it in real good and that seemed to solve that issue. I’m thinking over time some condensation built up from the interior on that old pivot bolt causing just enough rust to cause it to stick. It wasnt sticking all the time and when it did I would tap the pedal on the side with my foot. But even that got a little old after awhile so I had to check this out. Anyway you guys are a great resource! I am glad you are around. Keep getting dirty!

Thanks for keeping us up to date and posting the fix, I hadn’t seen that before so I learned something new today.
