      Whats up all,

1992 honda prelude. 5speed manual transmission

While I was on the highway last night, my steering wheel was shaking/vibrating a lot. It normally only gives me a small shake. but this time, it was a lot. When I let go of the wheel, it would drag me to the right. On a side note, when I turn the wheel left or right, it squeaks/creaks. exactly like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umdQOeMdcZc

It only does it if I go around 100km/h USA=65mph. The more I go over these speeds, the worse it gets

If I am under those speeds, it doesn’t do it anywhere near as much, it not at all.

I know for a fact my lower ball joints and 1 upper ball joint in the front is shot. the boots are torn. I saw them when I swapped my transmission. I ordered the parts from rock auto and should be here soon.

Rotors and brakes are 5 months old. Calipers were serviced.

I just want to ask you guys if tie rods, axles or rack and pinion would cause this.

Also one of my tires in the front is from 2005(dont buy used tires from a used tire shop)

I suck at diagnosing. I only know how to fix things.

      Thanks all

        Replace all worn suspension parts.
Replace tires with NEW, correctly balanced tires on undamaged, straight rims.
Be sure the brakes are releasing fully with no serious drag.
        Have an alignment performed.

I almost bet money that your vibration and noise problems will be solved

          Thank you

What im doing on monday is the front lower ball joints, and front upper control arms with ball joints.

Im a student, so its a bit hard for me to buy everything at once. I do the work myself though(school to become a mechanic). So I know how to do everything, just diagnosing is hard for me.

Ill get new tires for the front, as I only have winter tires in the front. So Ill replace them with new winters.

I don’t think the brakes have drag because when I brake from any speed, the wheel does not shake. But when I was servicing my calipers, the pistons were seized. so I un seized them.

Once I get under there, ill inspect the tie rods, control arm bushings and sway arm end links. On monday, im also putting on used struts with tein s tech lowering springs. The drop is only 1.1 in the front and 1.6 in the rear.

I understand that it’s hard when you’re a student but you always need to think of your safety as well as others. I suggest that you only replace what is necessary for now and leave your lowering job for when you can afford it. I think your tires are the biggest source of your vibration. If the tires are in decent condition a rebalance may solve the problem. Since you can’t free up sticking caliper pistons without removing them I suggest that you check your brakes for dragging anyway.

The lowering parts I already have. I traded them for parts I didnt need anymore.

Ill take the car into a tire shop for a re balance. hopefully they do it for free since I got the tires from them. The tires are dated 2005, but are in great condition. no ware or cracking

              Thanks

Not a fan of Tein. After ball joints and before alignment, try swapping the front tires side to side to see if the pull moves. It could be a bad tire.

                  ok thank you

Firstly start with a balance of the front wheels. Some wheel weights could of fallen off and put you out of balance. Should only set you back $20. If your issue still isn’t fixed get the front end in the air and check your front end bushes and joints. If they seem ok check your wheel bearings and suspension. If everything looks ok your looking at $70 for a wheel alignment. If the issue is still there get new tires
