Steering Shake

      Hi Guys,
I was hoping someone could help me with this one… This only happens at high speed (100km/h). My steering wheel has a bit of a shake in it like the balance is off. However I have had all the wheels balanced three times and after putting some nice new rims on which are also freshly balanced it is still shaking??? The only other thing I can think of is the Brake Rotors, they are warped as it shakes when you brake as well, but my issue is happening at highway speeds WITHOUT braking. Can the warped rotors tie into this?

      Any help would be appreciated.

      Kind Regards
      Damien

Q: do you get nervous when driving at high speeds?

First thing I’d do is to rotate the tires and see if I can get to shake to reproduce itself in a different part of the vehicle.

If the problems moves then the problem is isolated to the suspect tire/rim.

Rotating the wheels makes no difference. I have tried that already as I put the same tires on the new rims. Maybe the tires have a problem? They are Yokohama A Drive 195/60/15.

yes, the tires could still have a problem. usually problems related just to the tires can be picked up by a ‘road force’ balance. nonetheless, there is still a common denominator at play here; therefore, we cannot exclude any tire or rim issues at this point.

I think at this point what I will do is replace the Warped Rotors so we can eliminate that and then post back. Thanks for your reply(s) 🙂

How old is the car? Does the steering seem tight? The rack and pinion could be loose.

usually with out touching the brakes and the wheel shakes.
its wheels and tires problem. Unless rotor run out is that bad.
