You should start by counting the steering wheel turns form lock to lock then turn half the turns in the other direction. This centers the steering gear. If the wheels are pointed straight then the steering wheel needs to be detached from the steering gear and positioned accordingly. If the wheels are not straight you need to detach the pitman arm and adjust till the wheels are straight ahead then check the steering wheel.

I’m having the exact same issue, except I haven’t replaced the steering gear, or the pitman arm. It’s been like this since I got the vehicle. Does it feel like it has play on the right side as well? Mine does, not a lot, but enough, and mine is also cocked to the right like yours is. If you figure it out, please repost! I will do the same as well. I have a 97 olds bravada, very similar make. Thanks!

Anytime you work on the steering you’ll need to get an alignment when you’re done. If not, you may cause damage to the tires. It will also straighten the steering wheel out.
