I’m not asking for people’s opinion. I just want to know the results if anyone has tried any of these to fix their blown head gaskets. I would rather fix it the right way and replace the gasket but winter is here and without a garage, that’s a little rough. I just need it to last me till spring. These have prices ranging from $8 to $100…and they all seem to have the same main ingredient sodium silicate.

I have never heard of them working as they seem to cause more problems then do good.

Theres no such thing as a ‘mechanic in a can’.

I would do your own research and see if its worth the risk in using.

I have never used it but I know Steel Seal works but only if you are getting coolant in your exhaust. The sodium silicate needs to come into contact with the exhaust fumes to harden. If the head gasket only has a small amount of damage then it should work and a temporary fix but I doubt it would last until spring especially if you live in a colder climate. From what I have heard it makes a mess in your engine and you may end up spending a lot more in labor costs. I recommend not using it.

You may want to go to a Subaru dealer and get a little bottle of “Subaru Coolant Conditioner”. It’s designed to stop the minor external head gasket leaks that all Subaru’s built from the mid 90s all the way to 2006 have. It costs about $2 a bottle and it seems to work ok. There’s instructions for it’s use on the label on the bottle.

I use the blue devil, sure it did stop the overheating issue.

is it something that broke while you had it or before you bought it?sorry just curious. ive never had this problem i dont usually keep vehicles for more then a year beacause of severe problems that cause me to junk the vehicle. but this last year ive just stopped letting vehicles make me call them “junk” and have fixed the problems no matter what the cost. i cant stand crushing a vehicle because a person or people say it cant be fixed. how much is it worth to you to fix it. proving people wrong is priceless
