took me about a year… I did state testing concurrently with my automotive degree; each area of automotive repair I completed in school I would test with the state… usually before I even completed the class. Since I have a prior degree, it has only taken me 1 year to get a degree in automotive technology… and it has been a blast because for a solid year I have focused solely on automotive repair (no math, English, or philosophy or anything) 🙂
I’ve also taken 2 ASE tests and passed them… but still need 200 hours of real life experience before I get any of these certifications; need 2,000 hours of real life experience if no degree program, or 1,000 hours of experience if enrolled in a degree program…. and I have about 800 hours of experience before being fired from autozone. 🙂
