starting the truck after replacing 1998 Chevy K1500 fuel lines

After I have replaced all fuel lines in my truck is there a certain list of steps I need to do or do I just turn the key until it runs?
Do I need to apply pipe dope to the fuel fittings?

Only thing you need to do would be to prime the fuel system by switch the key to the ON position (not start ) several times.
As to using pipe dope …
You should be using the correct flairs and flair fittings ( which are self sealing )

As nightflyr said, they are self sealing fittings.
You would be wise to use flare nut wrenches to tighten the fittings.
Gearwrench makes a reasonably durable set.
Check the fittings for size with regular wrenches, so you can avoid buying metric if you need standard or vice versa.
