I have an Oldsmobile Intrigue that has been having problems the last few months. In AUG. it was running rough and it had a service engine soon light with codes, c0040, p171, p0440, but a day later it ran fine and the light was off. Then, last week the light came on again and the engine took a few cranks before it would turn over. It also has been stalling on me when it idles but not everytime. The codes this time are p0335 and p0440. The CPS was changed a few years ago (not by me). Is it normal for them to go out this fast? Also, do I need a scanner to reset the car computer after the CPs it replaced, or can I go to the auto store and have them reset the codes?

      Thanks
      Joel

You can just disconnect the negative battery cable for a minute then reconnect. The PCM will be reset. If your radio/security system take codes to reset after a battery failure you will need the codes.
