I have a 1996 silverado 5.7 and it has trouble starting if I let it sit for more than a day it does not want to start it will crank and crank then seems like a couple cylinders are firing when I let off the key and after a couple tries theres a smell of gas.. If I’ve driven it every day there’s no problem there’s no check engine light either so I have no idea what’s going on. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

it may be a weak fuel pump. try cycling the key on and off 3-4 times
without starting the engine to prime the pump. then try and start it.http://www.ericthecarguy.com/faq/solving-automotive-no-start-problems
OK I just tried cycling the key and it started first try but I always thought weak fuel pumps cause other problems while driving too? Is that also where I’m getting a fuel smell from? It runs and drives fine other than that though.

What could be happening is the pump looses its fuel pressure
when off and takes time to prime the system again or is not producing
the correct fuel pressure/volume.If you have a fuel filter try and change
it to see if it helps.OK it has been starting fine but it started having the same problem again i cycled the key off and on multiple time and i can hear the fuel pump come on but it just keeps cranking but its not starting. Do you think its still a fuel problem or can something else be causing this?
A little more info that may or may not be helpful but I’m still having the same problem and I forgot to mention after about the third time i crank, it backfires but it still doesn’t start.. Like I said the i hear the fuel pump come on and I have tried cycling the key like before but no luck
