      Ok another issue with my 95 Ford Mustang v6 3.8

      I am doing shopping to drop a 5.0 302 in her, already got the motor, ford racing timing chain, gasket kit, BBK long tube headers with X pipe, computer, GT/Cobra springs and shocks just need struts, 8.8 rear end with 3.73, ford racing cobra intake lower and up. and got a lot more to go, but off to a good start

      Any ways the swap will not be till next summer, I would like to drive her till the swap happens here is the issue.

      The Mustang starts off by not wanting to start like its not getting gas, once and a bit her has a little very little burp like her got just a little gas, then when I release the key she backfires, I keep trying and again a backfire, then she sounds like she wants to start, then she does start but runs like shit and stalls, and then she starts and runs like shit but gets better and runs beautiful like it never happened, I take her for a ride to the store and she starts right up like noting is wrong, the next day same shit she don’t want to start back in the same boat.

        have you tried carburetor cleaner see if It will fire. is it damp or moist in the engine bay. by backfire do you mean shotgun blast out the intake or spits and pops like it want to go. do you keep your foot off the pedal no pumping.

          Well its fuel injected the backfire is coming out the exhaust, some time i may give it gas just to try some thing to make it start, and I have never notice it damp no, but a little smell of gas even if it has been sitting

            do you have a fuel pressure gauge see if shes getting fuel to the rail and I know that its fuel injected or should be but some people still seem to want to pump on an EFI engine when they will not start. you can do a bleed down injector test if you find their is a fuel pressure loss.

              I agree with carguy. Check for a leaking injector causing flooding. Next time it happens, hold the accelerator all the way to the floor and crank and see if she starts up.

                With something like that you need to start with the basics. Start with any CEL’s you might have. If you have any, repair those issues and recheck for the problem. The rest of the basics would be covered here.

                        the type of engine control or the type of connecter you have under your dash for diagnostics so if you go to AutoZone and their scan tool is not able to fit the plug then you do not have OBD2 you have the older style version. we could tell you what type if you tell us what year and month your vehicle was made. now unless your parts store has the connecter for pre OBD2 that is which you do not really need any way.

                          CEL stands for Check Engine Light. Sorry for not being clear on that. BTW we have a page on this website that lists abbreviations.

                          Your vehicle is pre OBDII. Meaning you can’t plug a traditional scanner into it to pull any codes that might be stored. To be honest, your best bet might be to see if you can get your hands on a service manual for your vehicle. In it, you will find information on how to pull those codes as well as how to diagnose them if you have any.
