My 1989 Chevrolet G20 van will not start, i checked the battery and it is good. I wanna do a starter test sometime later on this week. Every time i turn the key it attempts to turn over, then once it slowed down so much it just starts to make clicking sound. I don’t know if it is the whole starter or just the solenoid. I don’t know where the starter is located. can anyone tell me either where the starter is located or possibly some other reasons why it will not start.

You said you hear a clicking noise when you try to start the car sometimes? It sounds like a battery problem. Check to make sure your battery terminals aren’t loose. If you have a multimeter, check the available voltage at the battery.

What size engine? I think your starter should be on the Right hand side of your engine, can you turn over the engine by hand? (to make sure your engine is jammed) .Also check your , this may sound funny but i have had a friend that had this kind of problem, only to find out that the oil level was dangerously low (poor or no lubrication for the bearings)

If you look in the Haynes repair manual you can use a jumper wire to check your starter

Does sound like a battery issue.Try jumping the car to
see if the starter comes to life.
