Vehicle is slow starting when cold. I had the battery checked and replaced because of age and a dead cell. Truck still starts slow when cold. I got under the truck to check the connections on the starter and noticed the housing around the starter had begun to fall apart exposing the electronics inside. I guess the question I have is, do I need a new starter if it is still starting the vehicle. Since we are coming into the colder winter months (and not wanting to replace a starter in the winter months and snow). To my knowledge the starter has never been replaced (125,000 miles). Is this the most likely cause of slow starting? Will duct tape be a sufficient cover without replacing the starter? Yes that’s lazy but if it works…
