don’t have any belt dressing could I use silicone spray on a squeing alternator belt. I hear that silicone is good on rubber part.

If a belt is constantly squealing, there is either a problem with the amount of tension on the belt or the belt has reached the end of it’s service life. Applying any type of belt dressing is a temporary fix.

If the belt is noisy but is properly aligned on the pulleys then replace it. The belt needs to grip the pulleys it is running on and to stay dry. Putting lubricants like silicone spray or other products that make the belt slippery but less noisy for a while is not the way to go.

Also check that you do not have any coolant seeping onto the belt from any source. With moisture content, the belt will typically squeal until it warms and dries out.

If the belt is new, something related to the installation is the likely culprit. If it has an automatic tensioner, like in the video, it might not be keeping enough tension on the belt. If your car has mechanical tensioners, they might not be properly adjusted.

Any time working on your car results in a new problem, recheck your work first and verify that it was done properly.

Well, I suppose all’s well that ends well. Glad you got it sorted. I’ll just post this for future reference to those that see this thread.

I’ll also add this for good measure.
