I’ve recently purchased an Audi TT (2008) and I took it for a service yesterday and I mentioned the front brakes were squeaking.
After inspection, I was told the pads/discs(rotors) were all fine and hadn’t been on the car for long.

As they’re so expensive, I don’t want to change them prematurely. Can anyone give me any tips to get the brakes to stop squealing at me?!

If the rotors have a glossy mirror looking finish on them, that will cause squeaks and all kinds of high pitched noises. This is caused by high heat. It’s called “Glazing” of the rotors. This can be resolved on a temp basis by scuff sanding the rotors to remove the heat glaze. We used to do this about 3 to 4 times a week at the shop I used to work at. Just need to scuff them down. No power sanding tools, just by hand. This was of course over 20 years ago when I used to do this professionally, so hang loose..as the solution likely has changed and someone may know better then I at this time.

          +1. good advice.
When are the brakes squeaking? Is it the whole time the brakes are applied or is it just when you push the pedal?
Is it the front or rear?
Are you sure it’s the brakes?
Can you list the exact symptoms with out using presumptions?

The noise is coming from the front brakes and only at low speeds when slowing for a stop.

I too have squeaky front brakes on my ’02 Jeep. From what I’ve read, it may be related to the type of pads that are being used, ceramic or metallic, or semi-metallic. Apparently there is a trade off for noise v. heat dissipation. It’s not an indication of something wrong, especially if they’ve been inspected, and more of a nuisance.

              Your mileage may vary.

That doesn’t really answer my questions.
