My 97 Accord’s SRS light has come on, and after multiple resets, I finally took it to my Honda dealer for diagnosis. They told me the SRS Air Bag Control Module (part # 06772-SV5-A30) failed, and would require replacement, error code 6-3 if I remember the paperwork correctly. They priced the part @ $837 + install (total of $1000!!), and I’ve found the module at online Honda dealers for $500ish. How difficult is this part to replace? Does it require any “programming” to marry the control module to my car? The service guy said it had to be programmed, but it looked like “plug & play” to me? What about buying one off a junked car that hadn’t been wrecked? Or can anyone recommend any other sources to check? I’ve dumped about $1500 in the car so far, and it’s pretty decent little car. I just don’t really want to put another $500 in it, however, airbags are kinda nice if you ever need them (hopefully not!). At this point, I’ve about got more in the car, than what it’s worth.
