Sometimes I just like to go into the shop and just work. No videos, no distractions, just me and a little music. Don’t worry, I’ll still be making videos for some time to come. I just need a break every now and again.

March 6, 2017 at 10:18 pm #877566Great video Eric! Really good points you hit on with what it is like to be in the editing world. Ive been an editor for 13 years and completely understand the amount of time it takes to make an EricTheCarGuy video. I made an account on here just now so that I can tell you one piece of information you may want to hear! Since you have a long backlog of videos waiting to be edited, maybe you could have a second editor besides Brian to help you push out the content you want! in todays world, we have ways to link editors and send raw videos over the web to anyone! So i want you to know that ive been a loyal subber of your channel since the early days of EricTheCarGuy and love every bit of content youve put out! so If you ever need assistance in anything editing related to free up the awesome work you do, please PM me. I would be happy to help! -Devin

You have become someone I look up to because of all of the things you do and how you want to help people. It does take a lot of time to do videos I’m sure. A suggestion: why not break videos into seasons? Your session can be 8 months of posting things and the rest can be taken to catch up or just wrench like you said. It can be a fixing it forward time period or repair videos for later when you get a little tired of the shop and you just want to edit stuff. You had time to reply to some of my posts and I thank you for that but hey, it’s time consuming. I get time is precious especially when you have a list of things to do that just keeps getting things piled up. I think it would be great to take some time to get away from videos for a while because people will understand seasons on your channel. At least I feel they would. Season one can be fixing it forward, another can be a project car, things like that. Take care and don’t over work yourself. Or maybe more appropriately, don’t get too dirty.Chris

I might take you up on that. In a way the video was a solicitation for people like you. In another way it was making a video that was easy to produce instead of one that was difficult to produce. It’s much easier to edit a vlog about not shooting a repair video than it is to shoot a repair video and have to edit it. It also gave me the opportunity to let some of the fans ‘behind the scenes’ to get a better idea of what it takes to produce my videos.
To be honest, I have a lot going on right now. I’ve been working solo shooting the #FairmontProject for the past 2 weeks. If you could, send me an email to biz@ericthecarguy.com at your convenience we can talk about how you might be able to help. It’s just easier to create a dialog via email as I don’t have to sign in every time we want to have a conversation. 😉

I actually do that now. I’ll shoot for a while then edit for a few weeks. In fact I did a bunch of editing the first couple of months of this year. I did that because the shop can get cold and unpleasant to work in. Yes I have heat, but we can’t run it during the shoot because of the noise. It becomes a balance between how long we can run the heat before we shoot till we freeze. Also, Brian has other work recording sporting events. He’s unavailable for months at a time sometimes and I need to work around that. That’s where Derek came in, but he’s not always available either. In fact, lately I’ve been doing a lot of shooting by myself just to get work done.
I also work this way because of the travel I do sometimes. Throughout the year I leave for days or weeks at a time. I need to have videos shot, edited, uploaded, and the descriptions written so there is no interruption in my weekly postings. As an example, right now I have the next months worth of videos in the cue ready to make live. Thing is, that lead will be eaten up soon because I have some of that very travel coming up. That means when I get back I’ll have even more work to do to catch back up. Not as much because of my preparation, but still a significant amount.
Also, that still doesn’t solve the backlog of footage which is substantial at this point. In fact, after this week I may be a year behind. My best hope at this point is to either learn how to manipulate space/time or find a really good editor that I can afford and work with.
Thanks for your input.

I may not know too much about editing but if you need some videos cut down in length, I can help with that. I would not charge at all as you do plenty for us. That being said, I think it would be great you get an extra hand or two with what you do and I believe it will help a lot. As for my season idea I was giving you, I meant it for posting videos rather than work you do on your end. I got the idea from Good Mythical Morning. They post videos daily 5 days a week and on the weekends, the crew posts videos of their own. For a time (I believe it is a month) they stop posting videos then return to posting after. They make 2 seasons a year and they still have a good following. Just a thought. Thank you again Eric.

Thanks for the offer. I’ve actually found that posting multiple videos during the week is not a good thing. It actually hurts views because the videos don’t come up in peoples feeds. It also ‘saturates’ the audience. I’m very happy with my posting schedule, I just need to work out some sort of system for editing.
Thank you very much for the input.
