      Hi there,

I recently have had a new clutch kit fitted (clutch plate, pressure plate, throw bearing and the flywheel skimmed) by a garage and I now some strange new noises happening.

1 the throw bearing arm or that area makes a squealing noise when the clutch is not engaged even when idling but soon as I touch the clutch pedal it stops.

      2. When I start the car the car starts but it makes a noise only when the starter motor is engaged. It sounds like when you engine is already started and you try to turn the key that’s the noise she makes and I can not figure out why that is happening.

The car is a 1994 Honda Ballade 160i here but is a d16a7 engine so very much the same as a Honda civic over in America.

      Please can you help me.

For the starter issue. sounds like the starter teeth
have a problem or the starter needs shims or is not
        aligned.

Ok so you think its the slave making the noise I thought it might be a bad throw bearing.
Do you think I should get a new slave and replace it or would it be something else.

I went and had a closer look with the engine off the slave seems ok on visual but when moving the arm it does the squeaking noise so I don’t think its the slave but I could be wrong.

          Please can you advise.

The real annoying part of this it just came back from a garage and the only way I can get it back to them to fix their mess is if I take leave from work which I don’t really want to do but if I must I will.

But if I can fix it myself then I will.

Put some antisieze on the slave rod to stop the squeak.
Where the starting noises there before or after the work
was done? If the car came back with the noise. Then it goes
            back to the mechanic.

I’d take it back to the garage where you had the clutch replaced. If you’re hearing starter “grinding” noises when it’s engaged, while yes it could need to be shimmed, but if you didn’t have that before the work was done, the shop needs to figure out why. After they resurfaced the flywheel (and I assume the ring gear) did they check the tolerances before they put it back together?

The clutch squealing sounds like a defective throw-out bearing. That may not be the shop’s fault, but if they got a bad one, they still need to replace it because it’s not likely it passed the road test before they gave it back to you. Besides, if you try and fix this yourself, they would probably claim the defects are because of what you did not what the shop did.

You might find this video helpful as well, as far as how a clutch operates with it’s parts.
