“Almost half of the transmission failures occur under 90,000 miles,†….“One in five break down before the odometer hits 70,000 miles.

That was an interesting read.
My wife’s best friend has an 05 Civic. Hopefully she wont have those issues as she is still paying it off.
They don’t make vehicles like they used to.
February 7, 2012 at 11:00 am #454339I remember getting that recall when I had my 04 Pilot. They ran a transmission fluid return line to the fill port to try to lubricate second gear.
February 8, 2012 at 11:00 am #454340My wife drives a 00′ Acura TL. The trans does have the modification kit (tube from fill cap to case). She has 147,000 miles and so far so good. I guess we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed and the fluid changed. I have heard many people refer to these transmissions as “Glass Transmissions”.
October 3, 2012 at 5:09 am #466423I was thinking of getting an ’04 or ’05 Civic (with automatic trans) to replace our ’95 Odyssey but the stories of the issues Honda seemed to be having with their automatic transmissions from ’01 to ’03 are giving me second thoughts. From what I’ve read specific to Odysseys things were improved after 2003; any idea if the Civics are the same story?

October 28, 2012 at 11:37 pm #472417Hopefully they will fix this problem. I am reluctant to buy anything honda after 2000 because of this problem.

November 1, 2012 at 12:42 pm #473289I personally like the 90’s civics’s better. But I honestly can not stand a automatic transmission. I just don’t have that feel of having full control of that car with the automatic doing the work for me. I like to decide how high (up to red line) I will let the engine rev before I change the gears. It just seems to me that ever since Honda started developing other technologies their quality in the car department diminished. It’s just like what Jeromy Clarkson from Top Gear said about I believe Ferrari. When they win a F1 championship, the quality of their road cars diminishes, when they lose, the quality goes back up, it’s the same thing I have seen with Honda. I have yet to see that with Toyota though.

I have not heard much bad about the Civic. However any car that is going to be 8-9 years old is hard to say about reliability without knowing how the previous owner took car of it. The horror stories I have seen and heard come from the 4 speed auto on v6 Hondas and the 5pd auto attached to the ODY, Accord, Pilot, Acura.
I own a 2003 Accord V6 and a 2004 v6. I have not had any trouble with them and they both have over 150k. I know when they were new they had the recall done on the oil pack kit though.
