A month ago I had the p0401 code. Sure enough, the EGR passage was clogged like a constipated horse. Cleaned it all. No CEL until tonight.
On the way home, on the highway, I hit a bump and around the front passenger side it sounded like something breaking like plastic or maybe tiny rocks flinging around in the wheel well. About a second later, CEL light comes on. WONDERFUL!. :woohoo: A moment I commemorated by saying, “Well, s***, now what?”
Peeked around under the hood, no immediate evidence of anything broken. Hook up scanner –
p1456 – EVAP/canister purge system leak
p1491 – EGR system – valve lift insufficientAs we know – one problem can cause several codes.
One problem is the filler neck is made of serious rust and the vent hose leaks. So, that may explain the EVAP problem. BTW gas cap tight.
Would this cause the EGR problem as well? Is there a connection? It has an electronic EGR, I had it off when I did the passages but didn’t really see any way to “clean” it. Yeah, I wanted to.
I cleared the codes and ran the engine for a few minutes and the light didn’t re-appear right away which is good, I await.
So then, are these two codes related and how? AND – is it practical or possible to disassemble and clean the EGR module? I assume this “Valve lift” is the valve inside the EGR.
Tried to see if there were any Eric videos about this, I found none.
Thank you.
