      Hey guys and ladies,
My car runs hot. I diagnosed a lot of it and came to the conclusion it is the actual connector that doesn’t make contact with the cooling fan switch. I drive a 97 civic. I have had to drive it to work as I am currently working on my backup car and cant run it at all while this one I am forced to run it to work and back as well as junk yard to get parts. It doesn’t over heat per say but it does run just a little warmer than usual. I drive in highway only for the most part so I do not give it a chance to have to use the fan. I was curious on it as it started having a little bit of a rough idle. I feel like it has a clogged injector or a dirty spark plug that doesn’t fire from time to time. Can this be a result of the engine running just a little warmer than usual? What would you all suggest I start looking? I will be fixing the fan issue tomorrow by getting another connector off a junkyard car but wanted to know what you all believe the bad idle may be. Thanks for your help.

it could also be a head gasket leaking in the cylinder cuasing the spark pug to get wet…
I owuld check the oil and coolent to see if you have oil in the coolent and antifreeze in the oil…. also might want to do a compression test
but as long as it is normal tempure I dont think it would be causing the ruff ride..

Go ahead and do a compression test to ensure there’s no issue there. While you’re at it, check your plugs and wires make sure they’re all in good shape. Ensure there’s no cracks in the ceramic.

You can also check to make sure there are no holes in your intake that are downstream from you MAF sensor. Any unmetered air will cause a miss and rough idle.

          Check your exhaust manifold gasket.

It would probably throw a code, but it could be the catalytic converter.

Then the usual things like bad or clogged injectors, bad distributor or coil pack. (Not sure what your car has.) Dirty throttle body.

Also, I’ve seen clogged fuel filters cause a miss, just because there’s not enough fuel getting to the engine.

There is no antifreeze or oil where it is not supposed to. I know the engine is solid because I have just replaced all the gaskets on it. I will start running the fan by bypassing the relay as it is the only way to ensure it is cooling properly. A compression test would be good thank you for the suggestion AaronTrip316 I do not believe the exhaust or catalytic converter would be an issue as these are all new as well. The fuel filter has been changed, the EGR passages have been cleaned, the brake system redone, the clutch slave cylinder and liquid replaced. new cv axels and tie rods. this car has had a lot of work done as you can imagine. No vaccum leaks either that I know of. Ill have to test for that too. Maybe a dirty MAF. Anything I may have missed? thanks for your help

Sounds like you have it all pretty much checked out.

You check MAF, plugs, wires, injectors?

So since this has happened I have checked everything even maf sensor again. Since then it has been fixed but the crazy thing it I never found out what was wrong with it. What fixed it: I let my cousin drive it as he has never driven a manual before. He stalled it out because he thought he was in first when really he was in third. From there, it ahs run extremely well. Who would have thought?
