One of the most frustrating maintenance items for me to date…the fuel filter.
I began the fuel filter about a month ago but had to button it up (couldn’t find a good fitting aftermarket part) and move on to something else. Revisited the fuel filter last weekend. While I was positioning it toward the mounting bracket (from the floor, up) in the engine compartment, near the top of the wheel well, I heard a pop…my stomach dropped as I realized I had crimped the fuel line, the nylon inner wall and rubber outer wall type 🙁 So I went back and forth in my mind whether to repair it or replace it. Started to repair it but that wasn’t working well. Started unclipping mounting clips to replace the line but couldn’t access the set of clips under an access panel where the lines move away from the frame rail and toward the pinch weld en route to the fuel tank. Switched gears again toward repair. Bought a different repair kit and this time it was a little easier but I still managed to tear my fingers to shreds, loose a couple layers of skin and acquire several blisters along the way…just saying! But it is finally done and no leaks! Have been checking incessantly and will be for the next couple of days. I will be replacing the fuel lines when I have $220.00 to drop on the set.
Leak down test planned for tomorrow, yeay! Then I will decide where to go from there…still have the exhaust, a lower control arm/alignment and complete front brakes to do.
Thanks for reading.
