So guys im back with extremely bad news. My clutch started slipping and unfortunately as much as I dont want to say it I think its shot. I believe it all started yesterday. I installed some strut bars and I make some quick runs to test out the handling so I obviously had to smash on the gas pedal. I have been experiencing some smells that smell like my clutch might be burning or maybe my tranny. The reason I say my transmission is because my friend also has the same car but an automatic and whenever he steps on it you can smell his transmission. Even though mine is stick the smells are very similiar. My clutch only has about 2000 miles + or – 500 miles. I currently have an Autozone clutch. When I first bought the car it had just gotten a brand new clutch also from Autozone. After I purchased the car and after about 2 weeks the clutch started slipping until I couldn’t even drive it. So a brand new Autozone clutch was put in and well now its slipping and its shot now. My Driving habits: I usually don’t smash on it but lets just say I drive about 20% of the time hard and the 80% normal shifting around 3500 normally. Could that cause my clutch to slip this early. I am considering investing in a Stage 1 Exedy Clutch. When I began to switch gear I let go of gas then initiate clutch pedal>shift to gear> then let go clutch pedal>as soon as clutch pedal is released I give it gas. This extremely sucks because it just seems its one thing after another and I cant believe the clutch is going out. I dont rev match, I dont

        Here ya go for parts:

I have this kit (EXEDY OE 08022) in my VX currently. Works fine. Just don’t go all WOT for the first 1,000 miles at least, let things naturally start to break-in and use the correct MTF, of course. I re-surfaced the stock flywheel and had the rear main seal replaced. Make sure there is no fluid inside the clutch housing when you remove the transmission. Inspect your flywheel for obvious scoring, damage. Take pics and post if you want.

Is there no way to remove the harness itself for the VSS and leave the sensor itself plugged in? I have used that location to refill the fluid instead of cracking open/awkward angle at home to install via the fill bolt. The drain bolt is easy to spot.

Get yourself a FSM via ebay, searchable pdf version. Put it on a laptop and have that thing nearby to compared what you are pulling to what the manual shows. Good to have on hand. Technology age, use it!

Can understand your frustration on the labor part, my entire clutch job was about that price but without warranty obviously. They’d probably grill you for $200 on the kit if they are charging $99 to resurface the flywheel. So, nearly $900, that’s dealer pricing.

Yea Honda wanted to charge I believe $1100-1200 for a clutch replacement. But the warranty from the first shop I was talking about doesnt cover lets say if the clutch burns out. What are causes of the clutch burning? Is it just speed racing or could it be because of a bad flywheel too. Let me know if you guys have an idea or possible explanation for the following. Before my clutch started slipping, I would drive normally the speed limit. When trying to add a little gas on the on ramp to the freeway I always smelled something coming from the engine bay. It was a very strong smell kind of smelling like something was indeed burning or heating up. Im not looking for an answer to what that smell is im looking for why it would smell just because I give the car a little gas while trying to catch up to speed on the freeway? Could it be caused by the Flywheel, not being resurfaced, burning my clutch? Could it be my tranny? I could make the smell come and go just easily by putting it into a high gear at a speed of like 20mph and stepping on it. Clutch burning?

If the flywheel wasn’t serviced when you did the the original clutch job, then yeh, it might be slipping when you get on the gas. The most common causes for burned clutches are abuse, such as driving it hard (which you said you don’t) or riding the clutch because you aren’t good at driving a stick, or a bad mating surface on the flywheel. Since you said it happens when you give it gas on the freeway, and get the same smell by letting it slip in a high gear at low speed, then I would bet it’s slipping on a poorly surfaced flywheel.

Well said. What you have to understand on the warranty is its hard to warranty something
              based on driving habits.

If you do decide to do it yourself may I suggest you purchase the Integra clutch replacement video on the Tools page of this site? Even though it’s on an Integra the process is almost exactly the same and I believe it will answer many of the questions you’ve already posted here including how to deal with the speed sensor and how to drain and fill the transmission.
