Was servicing my front brakes because the driver’s side was making an almost like shifting noise at low speed braking, sounded like maybe the bracket was loose.

Upon Inspection of the slide pins, the top one was seized in the bracket.

Removed it and replaced the rubber bushing at the end but it wouldn’t go into the bracket. Even when trying to reuse the old bushing. It didn’t look swollen either.

It only fits without the rubber bushing at the end. Do I need it? Installed without it now as I had to drive my car and that noise is now gone as the slide pin can easily move.

However how important is it to be in there?

I would exchange it for another one… maby an other brand.. if you have a caliper or macromitor you can mesure it and see if its the same but Im thinking is its some how bad and the thickness is diffrent… yes they are importent they allow the brakes to open back up with out it the brakes will basiclly start seize…. I have a question are you lubing the new ones??? if not that could be the problem and also there is a grove that the slide into make sure they are alined to it when installing

Yes I lubed before trying to install it. Without it the pin slid in and moved more freely it’s almost like the bushing was what caused the seizing but the new bushing wouldn’t even let me slide it in

Ok so I managed to get it in with the rubber bushing at the end it required a little push. But now it retracts a fair amount. Is that normal? https://vimeo.com/177954432

The issue is most likely trapped air. Try to lift the edge of the boot enough to allow the air to escape. Eric mentiond this in one of his videos. That is also probably what made the pin difficult to insert with the new, freshly lubed bushing.

What did you use to lube the pin? Some lubricants, excluding silicone paste, can cause rubber to swell.
