Sirius XM Satellite Radio

I wanted to discuss the satilite radio service Sirius XM. And one issue i find incredibly annoying with it. So there saying CD Quality sound but yet the sound on most Xm channels is bad. Lots of people are saying after this new update the quality of the sound has gone down due to them adding new channels. but is it possible that they can update the sound quality or would that be out of reach?

It prolly means they are too close the upload limit of the satellite or they changed the codec used in streaming it. From what i know about satellite communications in general download of info is great but upload is real bugbear.

Maybe or maybe not. They prolly just need to tweak the codec some on the lesser used stations so its not taking up as much bandwidth or like you said remove stations.

Well, Howard show,takes up like a lot of bandwidth, i think once hes gone the other stations will sound much better. That or get a new satillite with more bandwidth because alot more customers are getting annoyed with poor quality audio.

The quality varies according to the format. Most music is 64 kbps while talk is 32 kbps. Howard Stern falls under talk, obviously, so that does not “take up a lot of bandwidth”.

The great thing about car audio is you have choices. Pandora, Slacker, your phone or MP3 player, terrestrial radio, all of whom have better sound quality than SXM.

SXM wins because they provide a much wider variety of music, news, sports, etc. than any other service. That’s why people pay the subscription costs.

If you just want music, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t use something else.

Think you have it mixed up, its 32 for music and 64 for howard stern.
