Might not be the right section for this thread, if it isnt I’m sorry.
On November 5 2012 I bought and installed a rebuilt alternator from a parts shop/garage on a 1989 Crown Victioria 5.0 EFI. I did not replace the belt, it still has writing and looks fairly new/crack-free. At some point between last Friday and Sunday it apparently stopped working . so my question is do some rebuilt alternators fail after 5 months or is there something deeper in the electrical forestry of the car that may have caused it?

Rebuilt alternators sometimes fail just like brand new parts sometimes do. A rebuilt one should last more than 5 months. Was the alternator high enough output? Sometimes people add accessories, like amps for stereos, that overload and shorten the life of the alternator. A jump starting miss-hap can also kill an alternator.

I don’t have anything more than stock running, I put a radio I salvaged from my previous car, a rebuilt/reconditioned sony 1 disk cd player with an aux cable imput, but I wouldn’t think that would cause it and I haven’t added anything else. I jumped a van once but that was months before it failed.

Is there a problem with the vehicle or you just asking a question about alternators? My guess is that you are just asking a question and there is no problem now that you have the alternator replaced under warranty. If this is the case then this should have been posted in the General Automotive Discussion Forum.
