hello all I am working on my 2000 model Silverado 1500 replacing all the brake lines as most Silverado owner knows they are nitrous for brake line rust and my question is will I have to have it hooked to a tech 2 scanner to bleed out the air in the system after changing out the lines? thanks for any info

The requirement for a Tech II (I know a Snap on Modis will do this also, perhaps an MT2500 as well) is to cycle the ABS solenoids to work out the air. A backyard technique is to drive on a gravel road and slam on the brakes to activate the abs to cycle the bubbles through.
I know about this issue firsthand… I have a 2000 Sierra, and I have a box of new, pre-bent brake lines ready to replace the old ones because mine are horribly rusty… but first I am going to remove the ABS to send it off for repair (Has that dreaded problem of the ABS and Brake light coming on all the time…. C0265 I believe) Just hard to find the time… May do it in the spring and do a write up with pics of doing it…

Like stated above you could try the old fashioned way of abs activation to try and bleed the unit once you get the new lines on. It’s nice when you have bidirectional scanners to operate it but sometimes you get lucky and it’s not necessary.
Ps, these lines are not something to look forward to lol.

With a repair as elaborate as yours and given you don’t seem to have access to an appropriate scan tool your best course of action is to do a conventional bleed and then perform an ABS event on gravel. The bigger the event the better, obviously only when you have a significant brake pedal feel from regular bleeding. Bleed the brakes again and repeat as necessary. If the pedal feel doesn’t improve after several attempts and it feels like crap it may be time to consider a ‘proper’ bleeding.
