I just changed the Power Steering pump on my 2001 Sienna, (Wow! Waaay more difficult than expected, way too little room through the wheel well, I got beat up good trying to unfasten some of those bolts). It took me all night, and by the break of day I was ready to zip it all up and test it out, but not so fast…

The P/S Pump Pressure Sensor Switch won’t attach to the electrical connector. I spent like an hour trying to get it to seat in there, but it just won’t, or I’m missing something fundamental here. On the male connector, there is a little rivet thing. And on the female, there is a curved side, and a flat side. How should they connect? Is it possible one of the pieces is broken?

This is my daily driver, I’m having to bum rides from friends until I get this figured out. Anybody got any ideas?

Do you have to squeeze it to get it on there as well? Does anyone have any experience with this BS?

Have you verified the new pump has the same connector as the old pump?
Can you try connecting the wire to the old pump for comparison?

The OP probable re used the original sensor, unless it came from a scrap yard. Never saw a new ps unit sold that had the sensor on it; as the hose goes over top the tube and the sensor and threaded end go above and secure the hose to to the ps unit.

The sensor should should be removable with a 19mm socket

The sensor should be male plug and harness female. Look in the harness for a broken male plug still stuck in…

The sensor is removable with a 19 or 17 mm deep well socket, and the threaded end it screws into may come out instead (screws into larger union)…
