Should I replace this CV Axle/Joint?

I’m really not sure whether I should or not. The boot is clearly separated but I don’t believe it is making any noise.

Well if they designed it to have a boot, then it should have a boot. I would replace but if its not making noise and you’re very tight on money for some reason its probably fine for a little while.

That could save you some time from having to replace the axle.

For what its worth, I just had my inspection done and the mechanic told me when it comes to ripped boots, you just leave it. There is no way to repair short of removing cv joint – and considering labor, might as well replace joint. So yeah, dirt is going to get up there until it is time to replace.

There are 2-piece CV boot replacements that are installed without having to disassemble the hub/joint unit. If it gets you through the winter, it’ll have paid for itself.
