I don’t want to rush into this so that’s why I thought I’d ask for some opinions here first. The truck means a lot to me as it’s been my daily driver since 2006. It had 183,000 miles when I first got it and it’s currently sitting at over 350,000 miles. The odometer and trip meter stopped spinning a few years ago so that’s a rough estimate, but it should be pretty accurate. Almost everything is original except the usual parts that wear out over time such as water pump, belts, EGR and heater control valves, etc.
Heck, I’ve never even had to recharge the A/C and it’s still blowing cold though not as cold as it did years ago. With that being said, the old girl is definitely showing her age. It’s got a small oil leak at the pan plus it’s extremely slow and will pretty much only go 55 mph when going down hill. I average roughly 14-16 MPG so getting a little car that got 30+ mpg would mean huge savings to me. I’ve been told by two different mom and pop shops that the truck is simply old and tired and that nothing can really be done to make her run like she used to.
The Ranger is just a 4 banger, but it used to have plenty of get up and go and average 24-25 MPG back when I first bought her. On top of that, winter is almost here and my 2WD Ranger is a nightmare in bad weather. Even with weight in the back it slides all over the place like an egg on an ice skating rink so there’s that for me to take into consideration as well. I owe this truck a lot as it‘s been damn good to me, but at the same time I don’t want to keep the truck just to let it sit so do you guys think that it’s simply just time to sell/trade in? Your opinions would really mean a lot to me. Thanks guys.
