How’s it going guys? I recently bought a 2007 Toyota Yaris hatchback in January. Its an automatic with 167,000 miles. About two weeks ago I took it to a local quick service shop called Grease Monkey for an oil change. The tech brought me out to my car and told me it was time to get my transmission “serviced” which they do there for $200. He showed me that my trans fluid was dark brown and had a slight burnt smell, but I opted to wait.
I have no idea if the trans was ever serviced before. The manual states to only “drain and refill” when necessary and to only use genuine Toyota ATF WS fluid. I’m guessing when necessary means when the fluid gets dark and starts to smell burnt like mine. Does that make sense? I’ve heard endless horror stories about people changing their trans fluid at high mileage so I’d really appreciate any advice you guys can offer.
