In Canada, there is a Franchise Chain name ACTIVE GREEN AND ROSS. They service cars and have a large selection of tires because they buy them collectively at a cheaper rate. My point is that this brand along with all the other major car repair brands are failing. People are not bringing their cars in as they use to and shops are empty.

Please let me know what you think is happening ?

The price of gasoline has curtailed driving by quite a bit. People are using their cars a lot less because it costs too much. So less service. It used to be that nobody gave a thought about a 40 km trip, but now that costs 10 to 15 $ in gas. Even my motorcycle will take over 20 $ in fuel these days.

The oil companies make huge profits, but at least these profits are earned for the most part. All the taxes on gasoline really ramp up the price. And the government hasn’t “earned” those tax revenues. The politicians just pay themselves well and eat at the finest restaurants, and travel the world like our senators Duffey and Wallin. These are the times.

It’s probably more due to to competition from other chains that are better at marketing. These days to be a success you have to play all the angles– cheap oil changes, which brings folks in, and wadda you know, a good 25% of them can be uphold on premium oil and nitrogen in the tires and hey, looky here, your brake pads are more than half gone, we so happen to have a special on brake jobs on any month with a vowel in it. Remember a while back when Sears was fined like $46 million for requiring the service managers to average at least $200 a car?

More people leasing cars, bringing them to the Stealership to service, after 4 years they give them up and the process begins all over again. (Stealerships making all the money)

Why would I bring my car to a “chain” to save $20/hr? Stealership’s have whatever parts I need even if I have to pay abit more.

By the way, I don’t/never bring my car to a Stealership, I can’t justify paying $90-120/hr.

I don’t buy my parts locally, everything comes from Honda in the States, some prices are 50% higher here in Toronto.

You guys who live in the States are very lucky.

I dunno…There is a Green & Ross not far from where I live and anytime I drive by they are full with cars. I worked at that location when it was a Firestone store and it was very busy then so maybe it’s just a good location.

I live in Hamilton and we get business from Toronto cuz our rates are less here. People sometimes come to visit friends and relatives and have their cars serviced here at the same time.

Since cars are more reliable these days we are having to put a lot more emphasis on maintenance such as fluids replacement.
