    🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁 Hey guys! I just wanna thank you now. I have a 1996 Ford Taurus LX 3.0l DOHC 24v V6.
My issue is my serpentine belt will not stay on! Sometimes when I start the car it’ll stay on, but when I turn it off it slips on by one notch. I’ve replaced the belt tensioner already because the springs were bad. Still to no avail, I come to you guys that have years of experience, you’ve always helped me in the past and I hope you can help me now! Thankyou – Bradward

Something must be out of alignment or a loose pully. Check all pullies for being loose, and if you can fit a level or some other flat edge up against the front of the pullies you may find whats off. I can’t really tell by the pics. Make sure no spacers fell out while you had things apart.

Also. Is the belt on upside down? Hard to see in pics. But it kinda looks like it. Smooth side of belt goes on smooth pullies. Ribbed side rides on ribbed pullies. If I’m not seeing that correctly my appologies

I got the belt on correctly. I checked the pullys and ac is wobbly when i start the car. What would i do about this? Is there a wat to tighten it? I put a 8 mm socket o the bolt and it moves the whole ac clutch.

OK, it was hard to see in the pics. Is the AC charged? If not maybe one from a Junkers? Others will have other ideas on possible repairs

Ac is charged, would i have to bleed my ac to take out the ac assembly?

Yes you would lose its charge. You may be able to replace the bearings. Not sure, I would wait for others to reply. Or see if this may help

brad if its not your tensioner, then it would be your alignment of the pullies, make sure they’re all seated right. make sure neither one of the bearings are worn also, no oil or grease on the pullies, so on and so forth.

A month ago my ac pulley was making a terrible sound. Now when the belt is on it, it wobbles and seems to be slightly pushed inward to the engine, causing misalignment of the belt. What would I do about this?

thank you so much for your help.

I’m not sure but I’m guessing you’ll have to remove the compressor no matter what you do so you’ll lose your charge. Way I see it you have 4 choices.

              1) Remove it and see if it’s fixable.
              2) Replace it with a new/reman one
              3) Find a used junk one just to act as a pulley.
              4) Use an a/c delete pulley –> A/C delete pulley at Autozone

I could be wrong, maybe you can repair it in the vehicle, hopefully someone else can say for sure.

Was it doing this before the tensioner was replaced? If not, check the height of the old vs. new tensioner – from the first picture, it looks like it’s too close to the engine (the belt looks like it’s pushing against the outside of the pulley and angles away from it) – also, make sure the tensioner is seated properly against the engine.

For the compressor pulley, see if you can replace the compressor clutch (not sure if the part is available for you or not) – if it is, to loosen the bolt in the middle, you need a clutch holding tool to hold things in place, then you can remove the bolt. The clutch kit is the pulley and clutch plate – if the bearing in the pulley is what’s causing the issue, then this would address it. That being said, I don’t think a loose/wobbly pulley on the compressor would necessarily pull the belt off.

If you can remove the belt and spin the outer pulley of the compressor, then likely all you need is a new clutch. You wont’ need to open the AC at all to replace it. You’ll just have to unmount it from the engine to access the clutch. I cover the replacement of an AC clutch in this video.

Even though yours is a Ford the process is very similar.

More info on belt problems in this video.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Hey! Good news, it took me an afternoon, but I went out and bought a new bearing for my ac compressor. Took it apart with what little room I had, put the new bearing in, then put it all back together. Just like that the belt hasn’t come off since. I just want to thank you all for your help and ideas! Thank you EricTheCarGuy for the great descriptive videos! It made the whole process more smooth.
