Sensor Connector Splicing

I recently replaced the ECT in my 1995 Acura Integra and later saw that the wires from the connector were coming off. I purchased a new connector and tried splicing it and got nowhere with it. Same thing for the temperature gauge. I found a ECT connector online and noticed that it has red and black wires. The original had red and green. Not too sure that matters. The connector does fit. The wires got so brittle and fragile, as a result, they broke off from being moved around. I would really appreciate the feed back. 🙂

Wires don’t know what color they are. The colors are there for humans.

Connecting wiring is a bit of an art. If you are having trouble maybe take it to a shop. This sort of repair shouldn’t cost much.

I considered it. The only hard part is getting it to a shop without it overheating. I gotta do it on a cold day. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Any chance you could remove the entire wire at the sensor and wherever it connects to, or does the other end just bury itself in a messy wire harness in some horrible spot to get to?
On the bench, it is SO much easier to splice and fix wires.

If you are going to just guess which wire goes to which, assume red to red and black to green. This may not be correct but in electronics, black and green pretty much correlate to each other as “negative” and red is positive.

Your splice job looks OK, given you probably did it while working under the hood.

It’s a pretty tough spot. It branches off of the engine wiring harness. I’ve debated just taking the whole wiring harness out and repairing it. I’ve retried this a few times and nothing. Many times I would turn on the A/C hoping to hear the radiator fans come on and results in disappointment.

I can take off the ECT sensor. It broke in one place. The temp. gauge (single wire), broke in 2 places.

For little I know on car electrical, black has always been negative. Now, on house electrical, green is negative or ground. All modern cars are ground negative.
Why this simply does not look like factory harnessing to me?
What are you using to crimp the connecting tubes together? You may need to actually buy a swaging tool for this particular reason. I use electrical wires stripper/crimper from Home Depot. Some 8 bucks. Also, you may be better off using – whatever the name – a bar with 2 holes on each end and screws binding wires inside. Same Home Depot. It all depends on how hard it is to get to them wires.
                  Ok, they are called splicer/reducer:

Also, had good results with those:

As you simply feed wires through, and lock lid shut with pliers. Worked very well on headlight wires.

I’m almost coming to the conclusion that splicing is not going to work in this situation.
