Selling a car on Craigslist is always an adventure… I am currently going through the fun right now…

Here are somethings to expect if you have never done it and may try to do this in the future. I am currently selling the third car I have sold on CL so I am detecting a pattern….

      1. The first call or text you get will immediately ask for 30% less than you are asking..and you will never hear from them again…

      2. Of every 10 calls/contacts you get, eight people will want to come see it and say they will be over. Three people will actually show… Two people you speak with will have trouble communicating because English is their second language and one person will actually show and be on time…

Last night I swore I thought I had the car sold, the guy was sincere, seemed very interested and we agreed to a price. Since it was President’s day, there was no place to get the title notarized
so he said he was going to go to an ATM to get $400 for a deposit, and I would remove the listing and give him a receipt and today we would complete the transaction…. Then he left for the ATM and never returned… Never called or texted again…. so much for that sale! 😆

CL is still a great place to sell or buy a car, but you don’t ever have to worry about overbooking the time for people to come see the car, most will not show anyway…. 😛

I actually say to everyone that the first person with the cash will get this (no checks whatsoever)….

Of course your experience may vary!

      Karl!

Yeah, you’re pretty much on the money here, especially with point number one. Had my 1994 mazda 323 on craigslist for $1300 (brand new all season and winter tires plus it only has 125,000 km’s on it) and people were telling me it was only worth $500. I still have it because I refuse to let it go for that amount. And yeah, 2-3 out of 10 will actually show up.

You forgot to mention the scams, spam and undesirable garbage email you get that show one email address (mostly from hotmail) but when you reply to it it changes to a totally different email address . I only reply to calls and I am able to block unwanted calls and callers at my number.

Advertising a car on Craig’s List is not worth the effort. Between the scam artists and the no-shows, don’t think I’ll ever waste my time there again.

Craig’s List is great for giving stuff away. That’s about it.

When selling things on craigslist, I pick a close public parking lot that everyone local knows. When people say they are going to show up, I tell them to meet me there. When they get there, they text me telling me they are there, I tell them I’m almost there, and just drive over. Gets rid of all the “no shows”, and serious buyers show up.
