second gear grind at high rpm’s intermittent

Hi Guys,

I’m getting an intermittent second gear grind at high rpm’s in my Del Sol. It has an integra type r engine and transmission, with an exedy stage 1 clutch, and new clutch master and slave cylinders. At high rpm’s i sometimes get a slight grind going from first to second, and if I’m rolling to a stop and I put the car into first before it’s at a complete stop sometimes it will grind a bit. Can these two issues be related?

I’ve read that if you get a grind from 1 to 2 like this it could be because the engine is moving about too much. I have hasport motor mounts, but no torque mounts.

Exedy makes good clutches, I have one in my car, but their stage 1 clutch isn’t much. High rpm makes shifting difficult, on some clutches impossible. This is known as lockout. If you want clean shifts at high rpm it will cost you. Unless you frequent the track I say a waste of money.

Also, your syncos could be getting worn.

I’ll start by saying this. The use of high performance clutches on Hondas usually wears out the clutch hydraulics prematurely. That said, what you describe sounds like a 2nd gear syncro problem. Most likely you’ll have to get in there and replace it. More info here.
