Sorry if this question has been asked already, but what is Seafoam and does it really work?

I’m sure at least a few of you have used it in the past so I’m curious to know your results with it.

      does it work? Good? Bad?

      Thanks.

it does work some, its not a cure all. it dissolves some of the carbon in the intake depending on where you find to suck it in. if you have bad rings though it can make your car smoke by cleaning deposits away. you can avoid needing it with proper maintenance. makes a nice smoke show and pisses off the neighbors though.

if you havent done it before get the can that has the straw that you tuck behind the intake pipe. i have done several and if its done before the car is too crusted with carbon to make a difference it will help. tryed it on a worn out car not long ago and i thought from the shape it was in it would smoke forever. almost no carbon burnoff. now im replacing the intake gaskets and looking it from the inside, there is so much carbon caked hard on it, its no wonder it doesnt work sometimes. give it a shot, just be careful were you dump it in at and if you dump it in the oil you will need to change it after 100 miles or less.

Seafoam is a mix of petroleum products designed to dissolve carbon, varnish and oil sludge. It should work fine as long as the engine isn’t too badly worn, or super high miles.

Like anything else, some swear by it, others just swear at it.

It works, but at $10 a can, the Chemtool B12 works just the same and is only about $4 a can. I don’t use it on my new truck because after doing it once and spending $85 to have the vehicle’s computer zero-point calibrated I’ll never do it again. Older, non-electronic vehicles are fine, new ones only use it in the fuel tank to help clean the injectors.
