Before I found Eric. I was watching Scotty Kilmer. The reality is that his videos we too short and I could not get the depth I needed whereas Eric videos are way more detailed and easy to learn from. For me I don’t need hands on training I just need to see it done to be able to do it myself or read a detailed explanation and I am ready to go. Please let me know what you think.
I hate the intro to his videos.
You don’t need to come screaming in a muscle car with its brakes locked with heavy metal playing loudly in backbackground
Lets take this video for example of why I have issues with Scotty’s vids.
First off tires can also make noises that can me misdiagnosed for bearings, so saying a noise that get louder as you go faster is automatically a wheel bearing is misleading.
he does not look at where the jack or jack stands are going, just tosses them under there (I have a feeling that part is edited out, but to a DIYer it looks like the jack should be in front and the stand just put anywhere under the car) I don’t recommend using the engine cradle to jack the front end up.
ARGHHHH, pickle forks. Don’t use pickle forks unless you are going to replace the tierod, the fork will destroy the sealing boot.
NO ADJUSTABLE WRENCHES, it’s a great way to mess up bolt heads, there is a reason the make wrenches in all sizes.
Use a screwdriver as a drift punch? WHAT? Use a drift punch, they are cheap and less likely to shatter and injure you.
He beats up the ball joint (and ruins it) with the pickle fork and than just ends up removing the 3 fasteners holding the ball joint to the control arm.
That professional mechanic forgot his eye protection 😆
And so now you know how NOT to change a wheel bearing on a front wheel drive car.
Eric’s videos are a thousand times more professional.
Oh hell lol I remember watching my first video of his,I about died laughing :woohoo:
In all seriousness as a DIYer I’d not recommend his videos over Eric’s….. He leaves too many holes to fall into and by the time you reach the end your confused, out of place, and have realized you’ve wasted X amount of time,or your “life” as some put it no knowing what to do!
I’m not saying the man don’t know anything, but he’s very unprofessional in my opinion.
Scotty’s video are good and I watch them. I’m a student at the University of Arkansas Automotive Technology. Eric’s video’s are the bomb! They have really helped me in my studies. In fact, the instructor tells the class to watch them when they have time. If you compare Eric’s video’s to Scotty’s, its like comparing a class textbook to cliff notes. Cliff notes have good information in them, and will help you pass a test, where a textbook will give you in-depth information. I say use them both to your advantage. banana:
Can’t help but thinking that this topic shouldn’t be on this forum. Like I Sparkyxxxx said, “use all info on internet to your advantage and leave the pieces you don’t trust. Let’s not start bashing other people.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree and disagree.
The problem is that when someone goes on the net and makes repair videos and they tell their audience they have 40 years of experience and are an expert in their field the info should be good.
Notice my critique of Scotty’s videos are not hateful or personal. It is when he does not show good safe technique or the use of proper tools.
*Not explaining where a jack or jack stand should go.
*using incorrect tools or tools in an unsafe manner flat head screwdriver as a punch or using an adjustable wrench .
*no safety glasses
If you make videos aimed at DIYers you owe it to them to teach them proper technique and to foster good habits when it comes to safety.
I can see where you are coming from, however it would be wrong for me to judge anyone that posts anything related this field. Yes I’ve work on my own cars for years, and yes I’m going back to school to get a degree in Auto Technology; but I can’t judge anyone that has worked in this field for years and years making a living out of it. Its all good information, just be sure to work safe. 🙂 [quote=”Raistian77″ post=77656][quote=”len.moret” post=77646]Hey All,
