Before I found Eric. I was watching Scotty Kilmer. The reality is that his videos we too short and I could not get the depth I needed whereas Eric videos are way more detailed and easy to learn from. For me I don’t need hands on training I just need to see it done to be able to do it myself or read a detailed explanation and I am ready to go. Please let me know what you think.

He has some good videos. If you can get by his mannerisms and loud voice he does have knowledge… Now about the catalytic converter bath…. I just would have to try it myself before I believe it.

        Just my 2 cents

Someone here called his vids “Auto Repair Lite” a while ago. Although he seems educated enough, everything he does looks so simple. All of the techs out there know the reality of most of it only too well.

Now..if we were talkin about Scanner Danner, his vids are excellent but above the average repair guy.

Scanner Danner is really advanced. But in order to understand him. Eric is a great foundation to build on.

I like Scotty Kilmer’s video’s although I don’t find them that helpful as watching him do a timing belt change in 90 seconds doesn’t help me much. But I do get some points from him.

Eric’s videos are the best IMO.

Scanner Danner is top notch for learning electrical theory but his videos are really long and I rarely have that much spare time for that. But I recommend that anyone who is starting out as a tech make the time to watch his videos.

i believe that there is a group of people that want just the quick and dirty answer to the problem from someone who has 40+ years of experience.

I stopped watching everyone else when I found Eric. He is way better at explaining things and shows his mistakes.

I like his videos because they don’t take up much of my time. I just have to turn the volume down.

Don’t know what to think of his Cat/thinner video’s though! Can’t remember seeing Eric poooring thinner in his tank.

Alot of people are talking about the Cat video that he did. Lol. I would not do it either. Seems quite strange to me as well.

Scotty Kilmer is alright. Doesn’t use too much detail in his videos but they are pretty helpful. I’ve tried the CAT bath thing and it worked perfect for me. I feel like I’m the only person who tried it. 😛

That’s interesting. I will review the Cat video again.

I really like Scottys videos, but they aren’t the best to get detailed information from. Scanner Danners videos are definitely too long, but filled with a LOT of useful information. Eric is a good medium between the two. I like his videos the best.

He doesnt go in depth as well as others, I prefer to watch eric, briansmobile and scanner danner. The shop where I work has success with clearing p0420 codes with BG 44K. No need to give your cat a bath.

I gave Scotty my good and honest chance and when he told me that “the metal parts of my engine get negative power from the negative battery terminal” I had to give up. I’m sure he knows a thing or two but if you want to fix your car get a factory service manual or go to a trained proffesional. Scotty can not help me. Maybe he can and has helped you but from what I’ve seen there’s just nothing there.

I think it also depends on what you mostly specialize in. I find myself watching ETCG1 much much more than the regular Eric the car guy. But, after twenty years most of the stuff he shows in the repair videos I have done lots of times. But, I love his opinion channel.

Scotty is really zero help to me, I just find his personality amusing so I watch.

Since I specialize in electrical and drive-ability issues I personally prefer ScannerDanner’s videos when it comes to “how to”. Diagnostics is the easiest stuff to forget, since there is no “real” step by step how to. Lab Scope work is also really easy to “forget”, danner’s videos are a good way for me to “bone-up” on the material.

Personally, I don’t care for Kilmer’s videos. He comes across as too loud, cartoonish, and his methodogy can easily be thought of as backyard hack.

Changing the timing belt on what is apparently an older, high miles car without changing water pump and tensioners or giving any consideration to oil seal replacement is very ill-advised. Just one example.

Or the one about A/C work where the gauges are just lying on the ground with open end hoses resting in the dirt……….
Just what’s needed; the addition of particulates into expansion valves, orifice tubes, compressor internals, or service port fittings.
