I watch his videos from time to time but I wonder if he’s really doing them because he likes making videos or because he’s taking money to sell a product?
He likes to do a lot of local news stuff and he seems to have mostly one sentence fix-its for any kind of question.

I agree with Chevyman. One big gripe (of several) that I have about Kilmer is that he presents a lot of those hack jobs as being properly done.
If he would throw in some disclaimers about certain repairs being worth a shot, possibly good for a certain amount of time, or as something to get by with for a while then maybe I could tolerate him a bit. Or not. I’ve worked with a few guys like Kilmer and they were never around long. The customer complaints and redos won’t allow employment to continue.Kilmer comes across to me like Scott Grove on Youtube who talks about guitars, technique, and characteristics of musical instrument materials and parts. Some of Grove’s stuff is not bad but there’s plenty enough bad to make Kilmer look pretty low key and sane.
May 6, 2015 at 1:17 am #663174The only corporate sponsor Kilmer deserves is Massengill. At least that company knows a douche when they see it.
Oh man! That one brought tears to my eyes. Kudos for giving me the laugh of the week. :woohoo:
On a more serious note I have never seen the brake line compression fitting video. Might have to take a look at that and back yard hack may be too praiseworthy for Kilmer Maybe Driveway Butcher would be better…..
May 6, 2015 at 1:27 am #663178I took a look at that brake line video. Horrid way of fixing something. He didn’t even bother to deburr and clean the ends he cuts.
As proof that he’s a moron along with being a douche note that he crawls under that car with no jackstands in place.
Shortly afterwards he pulls the wheel off while leaving his right leg underneath the unsupported car. That boy has been out in the sun too long without a hat………..
May 6, 2015 at 5:40 am #663197That brake line video is the one where I started noticing his massive amount of comment responses, most of which I don’t find respectable. He loves to argue with his critics in the comments, and he says things there that are more ridiculous than the videos are.
Watch the video “Why it’s dumb to lift your truck”, I think it’s called. The video is actually one of the more valid, although still flawed, offerings of his. The real magic is how all of his “truck guy” audience gets offended and posts all kinds of complaints about his opinion, and his responses are sometimes incredible.
May 6, 2015 at 6:36 am #663203I see what you mean about the lifted truck video and comments……….
The pot really got stirred there.
October 18, 2015 at 12:32 pm #841959Scotty has given me many very good ideas that have saved me a lot of money. Always do your own research first. He is a master at saving his customers money. Who cares about a hack repair once it’s in the crusher.
Eric’s detailed videos are particularly helpful for how to approach physically doing the work.October 23, 2015 at 2:49 am #842351Eric, Scanner Danner and Chris fix are great sites to learn about auto repair. They are all very informative. Scotty doesn’t go into as much detail as Eric, Scanner Danner or Chris fix.
October 23, 2015 at 5:28 am #842362Scotty Kilmer needs to stop behaving like a pinball machine wired by a colour blind electrician , I can’t take him seriously

October 23, 2015 at 5:58 am #842366One think Kilmer is not is a “mechanic of 40 years…” or however long he claims to be. Hack of 40 years, maybe.
No competent real mechanic will buy into the backyard hack jobs he does and if he were employed by a legitimate auto repair facility he would quickly be unemployed by that same facility when it’s discovered things are being Kilmerized…..
October 23, 2015 at 6:39 am #842372I watch videos and read forums to gain information on a car problem… eventually I find a starting point and work on solving it. The more point of views the better your scope.
October 24, 2015 at 10:15 pm #842520I wouldn’t trust any of Scotty Kilmers videos . As for Chris Fix , another tinkerer good for basic repairs but not much more

October 25, 2015 at 11:20 pm #842655I like Mr. Kilmer. He’s very entertaining and informative. I don’t always agree with his opinions, but they are his. There are times I hate computer controlled cars, and times I thank the car gods that it has a computer telling me what is wrong.
October 31, 2015 at 3:31 pm #843209I see him as more like an actor who makes a living making YouTube videos rather than a true car mechanic who tries to share his skills and teach the viewers. If he can’t make videos on car repairs anymore, he’ll have no problem making videos on any other subject (i.e. gardening) because he’s just more of an actor.
March 31, 2016 at 10:38 am #855329Im sorry to dig this back up. I absolutely cant STAND Scotty Kilmer. They videos are mind numbing and just goofy. There is no substance to his videos at all. I gave up on him and have not seen one of his videos in 5 years till tonight and i just had to chime in on how much i cant stand this GOOF

I can understand what you mean marsplex.
I hate stupid intro where he comes screaming in and then speeds, but most of the things he talks(well yells) about are his opinion(which everyone can have).
It is stupid to buy 4 new tires at the same time or keyless start cars are stupid.
But I don’t get why he wears those sunglasses all the time, he even wears them inside when doing the live chat. Most of his how to fix videos are under 5 minutes which is not enough time to really guide someone through it.
IMO its more like the advice for assembling flat pack furniture
(put part A to part B and use screw L and insert into Fig 9)Eric goes though the entire process from diagnosing to starting the fix from jacking the car and so forth
