Last week car was fine and had oil. This week oil was bone dry. It’s not leaking so have to assume it all went out the exhaust though there are no signs of it. Grandma said the car was making an odd noise so I took a look. Well yeah there’s no oil in it. Refilled with oil but now the car is making a clacking sound almost like a loose wrist pin. Called a shop and they said when the oil runs low on these engines that the auto tensioner will fail and timing will slip. Anyone with GM engines can confirm this?

I can shoot some video later if needed, it’s raining right now.

It’s possible that the valve liters are full of air from being low on oil and should get quieter in a short period of time. It could be a deeper problem causing the noise . That said that engine is bad for the chain tensioner failing also and can cause the chain to jump resulting in engine damage.

I video with sound might help.
