I have a 1990 miata mx5 the starter engaged when I pushed in the clutch ? The car was already running when this happened ??

look at the clutch inter lock switch.

Does this issue also happen when the vehicle is not running and you depress the clutch?

Are you sure it’s the starter or could it be something with the clutch?

The starter engaged with the car running but not moving !!

If that’s the case then I would say you’re probably looking at a short somewhere between 2 circuits. I’d be looking at the solenoid wire for the starter pretty hard for this as this is what initiates the starter operation. I’d also be taking a good look at the ignition switch. If you have any aftermarket additions such as a remote starter or security system I’d also be looking at these or any other ad-ons you might have installed on the vehicle.
