So, i was told i might have a bad relay which was causing my “Crank no start” on this dang 1997 honda accord lx 2.2l 4cyl SOHC. I got a new one put it in, still does the same thing, but i gotta say this,

Its not exactly a crank no start, it cranks and turns over, but it like slowly starts, i have to slam the gas pedal down all the way and the tach needle goes SLOWLY up and the whole car shakes and then finally “SOMETIMES” turns on. ANYONE know what could cause this…

Also, i have a BAD speedometer problem, it just bounces around and shuts off time to time, My cruise control works, i purchased a brand new VSS, and put it in, still does the same thing… Any ideas as to why??

And one last thing so i don’t have to put several posts, I was under my dashboard to take out the relay and found 2 wires not attached, they lead to this black box zip tied to the metal bracket under the dash, i am unsure as to what this box is, i video taped it to show you to see if its supposed to be there or not or if you know what it is. Please watch.

Your black box is a remote starter ( especially when It’s attach whit a tie rap and near the brake pedal beside the car fuses. and remote car lock. This box connect white to the starter wiere system and electric doors circuits system. All this wires are solders on your car wiring. So when you ad this cable you need to resolver the circuit on the car. At this point, is you re-solder not at It’s original point, the cable will detach and the circuit will be lost. You need the circuit of your car here : circuit wiring plan. You car repair manual can be found here : Manuals

How a remote starter work. The remote starter give the same electric signal as you turn your key in the car and button. See this video to understand how to install one and take this information to reinstall a new one or simply take It off. Video car remote starter tutorial

At the end, you might have a serious wiring problem on your car that can cause your car to not start and your speedometer to not working properly.

If you car is starting on the start after the first explosion, you might have to fuel release because the spark did not come on by lack of voltage. See this video :

Also, if you saw in my video there are wires that i showed that aren’t connected, Should they be?

Personally, you need to get a wiring schematic somewhere if you don’t want to buy It. But you need one if you want to know if this wire goes. Second thing try to borrow if you can’t buy one a multimater to diagnose you starter problem and you cab wiring. Your black box should have a brand. If you can find It if It wrote on It you might be able to download It on the web.

There is lots of things to check for a hard start condition, sounds like spark plugs is the first step, and see if there is oil at the plugs, if there is then Eric made a video about it, common as hell, and go with OEM plugs only on a honda. Other than that check with the dealer and ask about recalls, there was an igniter recall about those years that acted like that. They need your VIN number to check recalls, every car I have ever bought I ask the dealer if there are any recalls, its free to ask.

I am to the point where i think the wire going into the VSS is what is going bad because when i hit my speedo it jumps and moves sometime but i took it out and fiddled with the wires, nothing did it, Bad circuit board? I took pictures. Also, i purchased a new PCS (Purge control solenoid) problem is the hoses going into the one on the car wont come off of it, any ideas?

Ok you have already change your VSS = vehicle speed sensor.

For new in this car fild see the video below to lear what vss do.

So you will be able to see you actual speed. Why you cannot come off the PCS (Purge control solenoid) problem hoses going into the one on the car ? You may take a picture of which thing block you way to pull of the old PCS. Because every model is different for me.

On the circuit board most of the time, electronic fail because a capacitor fail. But some time the circuit break because they have no protective coating.

Ok but when i installed my new VSS, i noticed it worked PERFECTLY for about 30 seconds, then i hit a bump down by my gas station, and bam it started having trouble finding the speed, should i replace the gauge still or first go down to where it connects to the VSS, because i can see there is a VERY SHARP bend in the wire down there, could the wire have broken and the bare wires be touching causing it to short? Any idea?

Well, try to re-solder correctly the wire on the prover integrated circuit wire first. It’s less expensive. Then if It’s not working, It’s was a short powerful enough to burn components and need to be replace.

A better way to approach this is to do some testing first before you replace parts. That said, I don’t think the speed sensor is causing the no start condition. There may be a related problem causing both the hard start and speedo problem but you won’t know that till you’ve done some testing. These videos may help you. BTW, check for any CEL codes first. You want to address those first.
