This was probably my favorite video from the #SalvageYardHack series. I thought of making this video after doing a ‘pull’ on a window motor. I’m hoping this information not only helps people in the salvage yard, but also in other repairs they might do.

A very helpful trick shown to us by Eric MacGyver. Now the hunt begins to find those special push pins.

I haven’t had a need to do that in a yard yet, however, did show me how I can test the rear wiper motor in my Expedition with stuff I already have. Sweet!

With thick enough wires, you could do a compression test on an engine!

Not enough amps for that. You’d burn up the wires and the battery.

Jump starter box would help then. I used one when looking for good fuel pumps

That would work if the electrical system was intact. They’re not always intact. They also don’t have keys so you’ll have to get creative in how you activate the starter.

Ingenious solution, to a power shortage, I have one little suggestion. I would have one of the wires in the kit equipped with an inline fuse. Since you don’t know in the salvage yard if something is good or not (especially electrical stuff), if what you are trying to move is shorted or you accidentally touch the wires together, the fuse could save your tool battery. since they usually don’t respond well to being shorted.

                  Or I’m just paranoid. 😆

It couldn’t hurt, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Fuses are meant to protect wires more than anything else.
