April 18, 2012 at 11:00 am #453606You really need to tell us the vintage of the machine.
If you’re working on an old engine without electronic controls, then the term “tune-up” applies.
If you’re working on a late model engine, anything from the late 1980s to the present, most of them require none of the maintenance we used to call a “tune-up”.
The owner’s manual of your car will tell you what is required and when.
If you have an old engine or problem with your car, you may be interested in a correct sequence of operations to perform. Let us know.April 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #453607+1 with the above post. Please post the year, make and model of the vehicle you are working on.
April 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #453608Points, plugs, plug wires, rotor, dis. cap fuel filter, timing chain, valve adjustment, timing adjustment. carb adjustment. Thats for older cars for newer one just plugs and wires fuel filter and maybe valve adjustment.
April 19, 2012 at 11:00 am #453609Great posts above. The most important piece of info is the car year/make/model though. Also, the owners manual will contain the information you’re after, also suggested above.

April 20, 2012 at 11:00 am #453611Yea it’s impossible to give you a ‘general’ answer to that however that information is found in the service manual for your vehicle as the manufacturer sets the service intervals and what gets changed at that time.
April 20, 2012 at 11:00 am #453614Interesting, I was going to say perhaps a security control unit or something but if I read you right this is a normal condition when you select it?
