Some people might seem to have it all. Does that make them different? If so, how?

i hate too throw religion at this guys but there is a part of the bible that talks about having all sorts of things in life, personal possesions, the dollar, but without love its a sounding gong, its nothing… its all things that die away and fall apart, those dollars aren’t worth anything, so all these people that have all this money, they have all this money so people like them for there money and really don’t love them just for them, so what do they really have you know? money does it make a difference? sure it can make things easier, but doesn’t always make it better. 🙂

It can do , but if the person is well grounded to start with , money might not change them , but some people are just a&&4oles regardless and more so with money .

December 30, 2014 at 6:13 am #650614Some people are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, others work for and earn their riches. There is a difference between the two types in more case than one, with the latter being a better person typically.
December 30, 2014 at 7:27 am #650650more ofen than not its someone with a silver spoon in there mouth, but still I stand buy what I said, how rich are they really, they have had everything handed too them, they may not have any real friends because everyone just likes them because they are rich, I would rather have the money I have now and have good friends and family, than be filthy rich and have crappy friends, without love everything is just a sounding gong, a bunch of noise.

Money can’t buy happiness.

Quite right , my late father was a self made man , worked hard , put himself through University , started a successful Law firm in South Africa , he also instilled that ethic in his children , and also to have humanity, towards everyone
December 30, 2014 at 8:28 pm #650696Wealth is just something that leverages who you are.
If you’re kindly and generous, wealth allows you to be more so.
If you’re mean and cheap, wealth allows you to be more so.
I worked as an 18 y old lifeguard at a very wealthy Country Club. Full of CEOs and Senators and other names in the newspapers. Everyone was very nice.
One time I came off shift and a member’s tennis partner failed to show. He asked me if I played. I replied, “Yes, but my racquet is at home.” Of course he had a spare, high tech, light weight, expensive, perfectly strung, racquet. During the game I commented on the quality of the racquet. After the set he told me to keep the racquet for the next time his partner failed to show. I protested but eventually agreed to accept it as a loan for the balance of the Summer. He made sure there was never an opportunity to return it. Back then I think I made $775 all Summer. It was a $120 racquet.
December 31, 2014 at 10:31 am #650794I don’t know many rich people but to me the people who came from “rags to riches” are proud of what they have done and are the most down to earth. They are usually generous and caring. They remember what it’s like to be average or poor.
The people who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth’s are the ones who are arrogant and like to flaunt it.
Then there are the other ones who are cheap and hate to see anyone else make a living. The ones who would crawl across a busy street on their hands and knees to pick up a dime. They are rich because they don’t spend anymore than they can help. They lie, cheat and barter their way through life and treat others like crap.
December 31, 2014 at 3:43 pm #650809Ultimately I think people are who they are. Money can have a way of amplifying those personalities for better or worse. I just don’t think it’s fair to judge people based on their bank accounts, especially from a YouTube video.
December 31, 2014 at 8:53 pm #650830Why would you start a religious flame war such as this. Whats next? Eric’s opinion on abortion and gun control?
That poor people are just jealous, that’s pretty f-ing inflammatory dude.We have never lived in an age of greater inequality. Current rich people got lucky, that is it.
You should watch the film “inequality for all” if you think people just need to pull themselves out of the gutter by their bootstraps or other american conservative claptrap. The true wealthy are stealing from you and me through tax loopholes, selling off public resources, buying pro corporate laws, influencing elections, and generally just being as greedy as possible.

If you are not rich enough to influence elections, you probably aren’t that rich anyways. Eric I think that video will change your mind about a few things, especially when you see what the rich have done to the price of tuition in the USA with their laws over the last 40 years. I know education is a passion of yours.
People generally don’t hate the small business owner, or the self made man. The problem is the concentration of the majority of wealth in the hands of very few, not that some people have more money than others.

I feel you’ve completely missed the mark about why I made this video. Your comment certainly suggests it.
I know on a personal level what it’s like not to have the things you need to get by and provide for your family. My story.
http://www.ericthecarguy.com/about-etcg
I also pointed out in the video that all the money in the world can’t replace your health or good friends and family. That is where I believe true wealth resides, not in your bank account. Apparently you missed that part.
As I said in my last comment earlier in this thread, this video wasn’t about income inequality so much as people making snap judgements on a persons character because of what they might have in their bank account.
I never said poor people are jealous of rich people. What I said was referring to the people that commented to the video I made about the 918 owners and how they were unfairly judging those owners because of their wealth. Those commenters could have been rich or poor, I didn’t make the distinction, I was just responding to their comments and suggested that THEY were jealous. Not poor people in general.
I feel that ETCG is a prime example of hard work and a good idea paying off. I have known true hardship in my life, but over the past several years, I’ve worked hard to bring myself and my family up and I live a much better life now as a result. Is everyone capable of doing that? I really can’t say. But my point is you’ll never know unless you try. I can say that if you spend all your time talking about all the things that are holding you back, give up now, because you’ll never get there. People that do great things ignore convention and limitations and make their own path. Go tell Stephen Hawking he’ll never figure out the universe because of his disability. The people that succeed don’t bitch about all the stuff in their lives that keep them down. They pick themselves up, dust off, and move on. Losers bitch about the world holding them back. That’s why they stay losers.
If I can help inspire at least one person with my work or my story, I feel I have succeeded on every level. The entire philosophy behind ‘Stay Dirty’ is that you never know what you’re capable of until you try. You may get dirty in the process, but if you succeed, there’s no greater feeling than accomplishment and self reliance. That’s something that you just can’t buy. Teach a man to fish and all that. Stay Dirty applies to auto mechanics as well as other things in life. At lest that’s been my experience.
Your comment makes me think of a phrase I tell myself often. “Remember when you point your finger at someone, there are 3 more fingers pointing back at you”. I feel your comment directly reflects that statement and you should consider those words.
Granted, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect it, this is a forum after all, but please don’t turn what I said into a commentary on class war, because that was never my intent. My intent was to inspire those that felt they could do better to at least try instead of worrying about what someone else might have that they didn’t. As I said in the video, the only thing holding you back is you.
January 1, 2015 at 1:39 am #650861Very well said Eric. Let’s keep this conversation unpolitical please. Pointing fingers at conservatives like myself is..quite immature.

agreed eric, i think its also good too remember to be thankful for what we do have, i think a lot of people make those comments because they are jealous and ungrateful for what they have, so as a response they lash out.
however it is my opinion a car that costs over $1,000,000 is kind of stupid not because rich people buy it but because we really know it didn’t cost them $1,000,000 too make it, and no one should be spending that kind of money on a car anyway, but what ever makes people happy, i try not too judge people for there bank accounts, judge and you shall be judged.

amen on the parts bolded and underlined, you can either quit and bitch about something in your way, or you can find a way under it, over it, around it, or through it… the wright brothers didn’t create the first heavier than air flying aircraft because they sat there and bitched about it, they had a simple bicycle shop with lowly tools too make the machine, a weak inline 4 engine, and a whole lot of time of people telling them its not possible. guess what, within 10 years of its creation there invention was being used buy the military, now we have aircraft capable of breaking the sound barrior over 3 times, and going into space… you can sit there and complain about what you don’t have or you can make do with what you have, and be thankful for having something, because weither you want to believe it or not because we can communicate with one another is largely thanks too two brothers in a bicycle shop with a 4 banger and some wood and fabric and simple tools.
