Rewiring Sensor Sockets?

      Generically Speaking:
Can a pigtail/sensor socket be pulled apart and rewired? How?

      Specifically Speaking:
      98 Honda Civic, d16y8
Air Intake/Charge Temp Sensor (the sensor sticking out of the air hose between the air filter and throttle body. I broke one of the wires just where it goes into the socket/pigtail/outlet for the sensor. There isn’t any wire sticking out to reconnect. It looks like the sockets press together, but I know if I try to pull it apart, I’ll destroy it. Is there a special tool to pull sockets/pigtails/outlets apart?

Napa has a “replacement” pigtail, but I would have to file down/modify the sensor – I don’t think that’s the right thing to do.

      Thanks for any suggestions.

      Nic

Go to the local salvage yard and find the plug you need
and cut the wires leaving a nice pig tail to solder the
wires to. Use heat shrink to cover the connections.

Oh, yeah…salvage yard was my first choice. These Hondas are stripped before they even hit the ground at the yard. I’d practically have to live there just to check every time a Honda came in.

I called the dealership, too. They wanted $4-digits for the entire wiring harness.

I got in touch with Beck/Arnley (since they make the sensor) and they told me the dealership should have it separate from the harness. I’m going to try that again, too.

          Thanks, College Man.
