That’s a pretty descriptive page that shows how to jumper yer DLC (data link connector) and includes most of the codes generated. To jumper the connection, you can make a small jumper wire with blade connectors to insert into the female terminals. Some simple wire and soldering will do the trick. I believe Eric has a video on soldering. I wouldn’t recommend shoving hat pins in there, as they will spread the connector, and make it hard to get a connection. Good luck.
September 28, 2011 at 11:00 am #453237These are probably with is known as a GM OBD 1.5 setup which was terrible. No A-B jumper and sometimes the port was a OBD 2 port but used the older OBD I setup. Usually there is no way except with a professional scan tool to read the codes on these cars.
September 28, 2011 at 11:00 am #453238Some auto parts stores can scan some OBD1 vehicles if you have the ALDL connector. If its a 95 with a OBD2 DLC, you will need an OBD2 scan tool or a scan tool that you can enter all the domestic info as needed.
Beefy’s link should work for your application though.

You beat me to it Beefy. I’ve done this with just a paperclip BTW.

October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am #453246pontiac grand prix 1994 plug =ithink its the good one– with silver pc in the hood right front corner
October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am #453241I think your looking at the wrong connector as GM has always used the type of connector that is used for OBDII, I remember seeing them on 81 models. Check under the center of the dash for the right connector.
October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am #453242no i have the good connector its a 12 hole square plug but i just have 3 terminals in this one the pin =a and pin=m and pin=j ——- a=blackwire
m=tan wire and the j=green wire the plug is rectangle (black)aldl i know its the good on in my cavalier90 it was the same and when a i put my machine and turn the ignition on the fan go on and the check engine light is flashing but those 2 nothing!!!i have no b terminal!!!!October 1, 2011 at 11:00 am #453243Do you have a picture of this connector?

While the ALDL on the pre-95 GM’s look similar to the OBD II type, it is in fact different. It doesn’t have enough terminals, and and OBDII connector won’t fit on it (I think), but even if it does somehow, it won’t give you anything. The pictures above look correct. I have a ’92 S-10 with that connector.
October 2, 2011 at 11:00 am #453248yes for sure
October 3, 2011 at 11:00 am #453249Your right. I did a little research however and came up with this which might be helpful. Be sure to scroll down the page to see what terminals have what in them.
